U.S. Sanctions Pakistan’s Ballistic Missile Program

Date:

The United States has imposed sanctions on four Pakistani entities accused of supporting the proliferation of long-range ballistic missiles, highlighting growing concerns over Pakistan’s missile development activities.

In a statement issued by the Office of the Spokesperson, the U.S. designated these entities under Executive Order 13382, which targets proliferators of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and their delivery systems.

Organizations Under Sanction

  • National Development Complex (NDC): In Islamabad, NDC has allegedly procured specialized vehicle chassis for missile launch support and testing equipment. The organization is credited with developing Pakistan’s SHAHEEN-series ballistic missiles.
  • Akhtar and Sons Private Limited: Based in Karachi, this company has reportedly supplied equipment for NDC’s missile program.
  • Affiliates International: Another Karachi-based entity accused of facilitating the procurement of missile components for NDC.
  • Rockside Enterprise: Also located in Karachi, this organization has allegedly provided equipment to support NDC’s missile development projects.

The U.S. government stressed that these sanctions reflect its commitment to curbing the proliferation of WMDs and their delivery mechanisms. The measures will freeze assets and restrict financial transactions involving the sanctioned entities.

Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the sanctions, describing them as “unfortunate and biased.” The ministry expressed concern over the potential ramifications for regional stability.

“Pakistan’s strategic capabilities are designed to defend its sovereignty and maintain peace in South Asia,” the ministry stated. “These sanctions undermine the goal of peace and security by exacerbating military asymmetries.”

The sanctions are expected to further strain U.S.-Pakistan relations, with analysts warning of potential repercussions for regional security and diplomatic engagement. Critics of the move argue that unilateral sanctions could prompt Pakistan to deepen strategic ties with other global powers.

As developments unfold, attention remains focused on Pakistan’s strategic programs and their broader implications for stability in South Asia.
